I might use this rule more than all others. 


What is the 48 Hour Rule? Here’s the deal:

Clients mention to me that they sometimes ‘struggle’ with their diets.

Struggle is code word for eating poorly for an extended period of time.

Especially regarding carbs (simple and complex sugars)

  • Sweets
  • Pasta
  • Ice cream
  • Cereal
  • Alcohol
  • Bread
  • Crackers/Pretzels
  • Pizza

My clients know they should eat better.

In fact, they even know how to eat better by having:

  • Glycemic index charts
  • Approved food lists
  • Recipes guides
  • Sample menus
  • Supplement lists
  • Monthly evaluations and office visits

  • Internal food tracking Apps
  • Weekly internal email series
  • Access to unlimited questions from me and my staff

But it can be tough, even with good intentions:

48 Hour Rule: Sugar Addiction

Keep in mind, sugar is a drug.

It changes you:

  • Physiologically – Body
  • Psychologically- Mind
  • Addictive – Pain/Pleasure Systems

And like any drug, it has a 1/2 life.

Some drugs have a long 1/2 life (6-12mo)

Others, are short.

Good News

Sugar = 5-days (pretty short)

The 48-hour rule.

So what about 48-hours?

The majority (85%) of the 1/2 life of sugar is exhausted within the first 48-hours.

I mention this because if you are eating poorly or in a bad place, it’s just 2-days from turning around and removing sugar from your diet.

Now, I don’t mean that you’ll get to your goal weight, body fat and eliminate Underlying Conditions within 2-days but it does mean that your sugar CRAVING will be diminished within 2-days.


After 2-days:

It will be easier for you to maintain a good diet, without carb cravings and with better control.

All of this will lead to lower Insulin Levels and higher energy levels.

And to review, low insulin levels mean:

  • Less body fat
  • Lower fat weight
  • Smaller physical size of your body
  • Less vessel wall damage
  • Healthier organs
  • Better energy
  • Less risk of cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and stroke
  • Improved mental outlook
  • Better and Deeper Sleep
  • Less risk of COVID or other infectious diseases

And that’s the shortlist!

Strategies to get through the 48-Hour withdrawal:
  1. Decide – make a commitment to completing the 2-day time period
  2. Plan – Meals and food selection in advance
  3. Prepare – Meal prep will decrease impulsiveness
  4. Water – Hydration decreases cravings
  5. Fats – Increasing fat intake decreases carb/sugar cravings

Many clients report taking the Omega-3 Cold Pressed Fish Oil after dinner decreases carb/sugar cravings substantially.

Take Omega-3 Cold Pressed Fish Oil in one of two ways:

A) Either take the full dosage the Omega-3 Cold Pressed Fish Oil after dinner

B) Split dosage – 1/2 in AM and 1/2 in PM
